This guy is in prison because he wanted to pray for Lord Rasler and Lady Ashe. In my headcanon, when Ashe (and Ondore) decided she should vanish for a while, Ashe acted to protect her husband’s grave.

Nabudis is destroyed, Lord Rasler was loved by the people, his grave could become a rallying place of remembrance. She was afraid the Empire would be tempted to destroy it. So, the same way the treasure room was protected, Ashe enchanted the access to the crypt of the cathedral with a very strong magic only she could lift.
