this line sums up ashe to me. this is the crux of her character arc. she knows exactly how dangerous nethicite is and why she should avoid using it. but at the same time she has a duty to her kingdom. if she doesn’t do something, her people will continue to suffer. ashe’s motivations are colored by revenge, but their root is, ultimately, the betterment of her kingdom. (there are a lot of great comparisons to be made between ashe and vayne.)

of course, what’s equally important is the line that comes after this: reddas tells her to remember nabudis, the city nethicite destroyed. for all ashe says she can’t afford to fear anything, the power to destroy is something that weighs heavily on her.
