Square Enix released screenshots for the newly announced World of Final Fantasy. Director Hiroki Chiba says the gameplay-wise, it will be simple enough for first-time gamers to pick up, while retaining the depth and complexity veteran gamers expect of the Final Fantasy series.

Chiba also understands that given the series’ storied history and scope, newcomers may feel intimidated by the number of games, stories, and characters and unsure of where to start. By bridging the game’s original story and characters with those of the main series, he hopes the Worlds will serve as their stepping stone into Final Fantasy, while providing a new spin on Final Fantasy for those more familiarized with the franchise.

Worlds of Final Fantasy is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, and is expected to release in 2016. The reveal trainer can be seen here.
