THE WRITING AND SYMBOLS OF SPIRA: A GUIDED TOUR

Phew. I’ve been overhauling my old “Spiran Inscriptions” and “FFX Symbols and Glyphs” pages for two weeks. I’ve now reorganized them into four pages:

Part I: Spiran Inscriptions

Shop signs, ads, miscellaneous banners and writing in the everyday alphabet of Spira. It’s amazing how many tidbits there are tucked away in plain sight.

Part II: Al Bhed Writing

From airships and Travel Agencies to Cid’s tattoo, this covers writing in the Al Bhed script and writing found in Al Bhed settings (some of which is in Spiran).

Part III: Yevon Script

Temples employ their own sacred alphabet, spelling out messages in Yevon Script. These letters do double-duty as symbols for elements.

Part IV: Summoning Glyphs

Uncover the real-world spiritual practices and theory behind FFX summoning glyphs, which, I think, are a fantasy adaptation of Shingon Buddhism.

(I also cleaned up and colorized the summoning glyphs from the Ultimania manual for part iv: see Mindy above.)
