I see some people are upset by Tegoshi’s recent SCP speech either getting angry at him or feeling sorry for him. I feel neither and want to say a few words about that.

First of all, I don’t think he said anything new, really. Back in 2012 when NEWS came back as 4 they all talked about their decision and everyone had different reason for wanting to go on. For Koyama it was probably the members, for Massu the songs and for Tegoshi the fans. I think there was no wrong answer to that question. Similarly, when they cried during Full Swing the reason for their tears was also different. Some said it was relief but Tegoshi said he was bitter and touched from seeing how people supported them after everything that happened. I think the decision to stay in NEWS had many reasons but for him fans was the decisive one. I think his honesty is admirable.

I really don’t think he’s unhappy in NEWS. He’s an ace, an MVP, he knows it and other members know it and don’t mind it. If you look at Kaguya making you’ll see it clearly. Of course there are other things he might want to do but the truth is his activities in NEWS and Tegomass take only a portion of his time. Last year he only spent a few months working for those bands, the rest was mostly dedicated to ItteQ and soccer. I really don’t think he’s “sacrificing” himself or anything of the sort. He loves performing and he loves being on stage. It’s just one kind of fun or another, really. He said he is perfectly satisfied with everything he’s done so far. 

If he was serious about starting a rock band he’d have to quit JE altogether. But he’s a smart boy, he knows it won’t be that easy, JE has all the resources and it allows him to set his own schedule whether its dramas, variety or whatever. I doubt there’s an agency that would let him do Tokyo Dome concerts, be a caster at World Cup and have dozens of magazine and TV appearances. He’s not gonna be the next Hyde, let’s face it. He’s a perfect idol, it’s what he does best and he must know that. His last webring did alarm me a little but after this speech I am sure that he won’t do anything drastic, at least for now so this time I’ll try to trust him.

Of course these are just my thoughts, I just wanted to give you some perspective.

I totally agree with you ! Tegoshi is not the kind to do what he has been told. If he really wanted to do something else, he would have quit NEWS along with Yamapi and Ryô. The agency doesn’t like conflicted schedules anymore but Tegoshi could do collabs or else.

Saying “I stayed for the fans” doesn’t mean he doesn’t like his activities with NEWS nor being with the members. It is just the main reason to stay. Tegoshi is an honest person, and he is grateful.

The period of time before the announcement of Kaguya and then the new tour, what he wrote in his jweb, has shown that he was eager to come back with NEWS. At that time when I read his jweb, when he was talking about NEWS, I had the impression it was nearly an attack, a warning to the agency lol like “Hey I want to see everyone soon and I’m telling everyone so you have to give us work” lol Of course now we know that discussions about Kaguya were certainly ongoing already lol But he wouln’t say it so frankly if he didn’t want to work with NEWS.

When Yamapi and Ryô left I think we, fans, have felt “betrayed” somehow. And members know that. They promised us NEWS would never betray us again. Of course it’s an ideal and naive vision of life lol They’re human and their feelings can change. I personally only wish they are honest with us, whatever choices they make.
